Christmas Boat Parade 2011 | Venice Florida

by Wayne in Area Info, on December 8th, 2011

The Christmas Boat Parade 2011 in Venice, Florida was held on the traditional first Saturday in December. Thousands lined the Intracoastal Waterway to catch dozens of vessels spreading their Christmas Cheer in true nautical fashion. The parade route began at the Albee Road bridge near Nokomis Beach and proceeded South to the Circus Bridge near the Venice Airport. Sailing vessels and motor yachts both small and large displayed from simple to elaborate Christmas decorations and lights. Against the darkness of night, the lights were exceptionally beautiful. The children were particularly impressed with the vessel themed with “The Grinch that Stole Christmas.” The best part, was you could watch it wearing shorts and a short sleeved shirt. No winter wear required.

Holiday Parade 2011 in Venice Florida

by Wayne in Area Info, on December 8th, 2011

The excitement grew days in advance of the Annual Holiday Parade in Venice Florida as Venice Avenue progressively became lined with lawn chairs. Locals and visitors staked out their claim looking for preferred viewing of the parade. The parade was held November 26, 2011. The stage was set up at Harbor Drive and Venice Avenue and the street was blocked off. Prior to the start of the parade, the audience cheered to a variety of entertainment waiting for darkness and the parade to begin. The parade did not dissapoint as both the young and young at heart sat side by side to watch marching bands, antique cars, the infamous Shriners, and floats big and small move steadily down Venice Avenue. Holiday lights sparkled in the children’s eyes and the sounds of holiday music filled the air. The most impressive of the floats was the Nokomis Drum Circle float which shot flames into the air and had nearly 100 drummers of all varieties playing an island beat. Surrounded by belly dancers and the like, it was very impressive.

The biggest surprise of the parade was when the Foundation Church’s float stopped center stage and a surprise marriage proposal was delivered and accepted to make the most joyous and tearful moment of the parade.

Do Videos Sell Venice Homes-Absolutely!

by Wayne in Market Trends, New Listings, on November 1st, 2011

If a picture is worth a thousand words, what is a VIDEO TOURworth? It is worth a completed sale. Most realtors use virtual tours of their listed homes to market the properties. Virtual tours have limitations in that they use a technique called flash to make photos appear to move from side to side or zoom in or out. They are very seldom narrated and offer little more than a slide show. The investment from the agent is approximately $50-$100. per tour.

In contrast, the Welsh Team with Venice Shores Realty now utilizes VIDEO TOURS of their listings in which the realtor leads a walking tour through the home highlighting the positive attributes of the home. The Video Tour highlights the community, exterior, yard, pool and every room of the home. Palm trees, fountains, and pools simply look better on video. When buyers come to view the property, it is like a second showing since they have already seen the home in video. The Video Tours are valued as a $500. investment per tour. Wayne Welsh, Broker-Associate with the Welsh Team said “We don’t charge for the Video Tour because we are dedicated to making our sellers successful in the sale of their homes. Each Video Tour takes approximately 3 hours for two persons to video and approximately 4 hours to edit and publish. The videos are posted on Read the rest of this entry »

100th Anniversary of the Sarasota Fire Department

by Wayne in Area Info, on September 26th, 2011

Buckets and Brawn

Sarasota’s Fire Department celebrated it’s 100th year Anniversary.  The Sarasota Fire Department was born out of an urgent need and necessity.  A century ago,the thriving town of Sarasota was burning to the ground one building at a time, mayor H.S. Smith signed Ordinance #55 creating and organizing a Fire Department.  The Sarasota Fire Department was created on September 26, 1911, one hundred years ago.  The Sarasota Fire Department began with the first Fire Chief Henry Behrens and 12 active members.  The Cheif was paid $5.00 and each member was paid $2.00 for each fire call they responded to.  The original hose carts and ladder wagon were pulled by hand through the downtown streets.  Over the years the Department evolved into the City of Sarasota Fire Department, the City of Sarasota Fire-Rescue, and is currently known as the Sarasota County Fire Department (SCFD).

A celebration was held on September 25, 2011 at Fire Station#1, the busiest station in the County.  With over one hundred past and present firefighters and their families in attendance, a formal program was presented which included the Fire Department Honor Guard, and brief presentations by the current and past Fire Chiefs.  Retired Battalion Chief Wayne Welsh, the author of Buckets and Brawn,  presented to the Officers of Station One the original Fire Ax which was originally mounted on the side of the first Chief’s Car and was used by Henry Behrens, the first Fire Chief of the Department.  The Ax will be placed into Station One’s Historical collection for all to enjoy.  The grand finale was a Power-Point slide show presented by Firefighter-Paramedic Michael Sullivan which featured a collection of historical photos.

One thing that has remained constant through the years is the courage and dedication of the Firefighters, Paramedics, and Leadership who risk their lives for the good of the public.

Retired Battalion Chief Wayne Welsh is currently a licensed real estate Broker-Owner with Venice Shores Realty and sells real estate in the Venice and surrounding areas.  His team, the Welsh Team has recently been awarded the “Best Real Estate Team” by the  Venice Gondolier Sun.  For more information on Venice Florida Homes for sale, call Wayne Welsh at 941-488-6644 or visit www.Live4Venice.com
